Services

Individual Counselling

Individual sessions vary in length depending on your personal needs. Usually the initial session is 1.5 hours in length. Subsequent sessions are usually one hour in length, occasionally longer sessions are recommended especially if issues are complex.

Couples Counselling

The initial session for a couple is usually 1.5 to 2 hours in length. This allows time to complete an initial assessment, discuss your counselling goals, and to begin to develop a plan for implementing changes to achieve those goals. Subsequent session vary between 1 to 1.5 hours in length depending on the needs of the couple.

Family Counselling

When one or more family members are experiencing difficulties, often all the family members are impacted. For this reason, often it is helpful to conduct sessions with the entire immediate family present so the family system can be explored and plans for positive changes implemented. Initial session is usually 1.5 – 2 hours in length. Subsequent sessions are usually 1 – 1.5 hours in length.

Telephone Counselling

At times telephone counselling is a viable option for individual counselling. Telephone sessions vary from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Some examples in which telephone counselling is desirable include:

  • Health issues make travel difficult
  • You have moved to a new community before completing counselling
  • Work or other commitments make it difficult to attend counselling in person
  • You are on the road a lot in your work
  • You live a formidable distance from Nelson making in-person counselling difficult
  • You prefer to receive counselling within your own environment

Referral services

Depending on your unique needs, at times referrals to other professional services are appropriate such as addiction residential recovery programs. I provide information regarding treatment options (location, costs, programming, model of approach, etc.) and complete the referral process to your program of choice.

Alcohol and drug assessment services

Alcohol and drug assessments are required by employers for employees to return to work after suspension due to positive drug tests or on the job intoxication resulting in unsafe practice. I provide assessments using the recognized assessment tools.

How long are people usually in counselling?

The length and frequency of counselling sessions varies greatly between individuals, couples, and families. In some cases what an individual, couple, or family hope to achieve can be accomplished in a few sessions. If the issues presented in counselling are complex, counselling may be beneficial for an extended period of time (a few months or more).

Counselling Session Fees

My standard hourly fee for individual and telephone counselling is $90 per hour. Couple and family counselling is $110 per hour. I accept payment in the form of cash or personal checks. If you have extended benefits with your employment, your counselling session fees may be wholly or partially covered under your plan. Extended health benefits vary greatly between providers. I recommend that you contact your benefit provider to determine if your counselling sessions will be covered. Registered Clinical Counselling (RCC) is covered by a number of extended health plans.

Office Hours

My office hours vary to suit the needs of clients. Generally, appointments are available between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm weekdays. Evening and Saturday appointment are available upon request.
